Wandering past the Old Mill of Vernon

An hour’s drive north-west from Paris, we arrived in the small village of Vernon, through which passes the Seine River.  As we wandered along the banks of the river, we saw the Old Mill of Vernon, a 500-year-old mill that seemed to float above the water. It straddled two stone piers, all that remain of an ancient bridge that once spanned the river. The 16th century mill has withstood flooding and the passage of time. The soft afternoon light warmed the weathered timber, casting golden reflections on the river. Captivated by the quiet charm of this historic landmark, time seemed to stand still above the flowing waters.
