Wandering along the Great Wall of China.

We wandered along the Great Wall of China during an epic 4-day trekking adventure. The wall is over 20 000 kilometres in length, with watchtowers dotted on every hilltop - 25 000 in all. The fortifications stretched on through the rugged countryside ahead before disappearing into the distance. Although at times during our trek we felt exhausted, it was always spectacular, and we constantly marvelled at the wall’s construction and what a human feat it was. Understandably deserving of its place among the “New Seven Wonders of the World" and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Interesting fact we learned: a paste of sticky rice flour and slaked lime was used to bind the bricks together during the Ming Dynasty period of its construction!
