Wandering past St. John’s Church at Lake Ohrid

What a stunning location for this tiny, unassuming church! We were wandering around Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia’s most famous lake. We’d arrived on Ohrid hill and after a short stroll through some woodlands, we emerged on a rocky headland high above Kaneo Beach. Before us was the Church of Saint John the Theologian, small and graceful, overlooking one of the best vistas in the world. Since the 13th century, this Byzantine-style church has sat in this solitary position, at the edge of a cliff above the vast, calm waters of Lake Ohrid. It would be hard to beat such a magnificent setting.
