Wandering in Reine during winter.

Norway’s Lofoten Islands in winter felt wild, remote and dramatic. On one of the islands, Moskenesøya, we wandered around the beautiful town of Reine. Settled in 1743 as a fishing port, it remains an authentic and active fishing village, despite its growing popularity with tourists. We captured this photo from Reine of the red fishermen’s cabins (rorbuer) nestled on the shoreline across the bay. On closer observation, several fish-drying racks could be seen down on the water’s edge. In the distance are the rugged snow-dusted peaks of the Lofoten Islands. It is one of the most spectacular places we have visited.
