Wandering along Prinsengracht in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam’s beautiful Prinsengracht (“Prince’s Canal”) is a paradise for pedestrians, offering idyllic views of magnificent houseboats, eccentric stores, and 17th century houses, some extremely narrow.  As we wandered along, we captured this image from the Berensluis, one of many charming bridges that spans the canal. The distinctive tower of the Westerkerk (Western Church) can be seen further along the bank. Built between 1620 and 1631, the church’s famous tower, at 85 meters tall, is the highest church tower in Amsterdam. The church is the burial place of several famous Dutch artists including Rembrandt van Rijn. Prinsengracht, together with two other main canals, forms the Canal Ring, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
