Wandering past London Bridge on the Great Ocean Road.

A short drive along the Great Ocean Road from the Twelve Apostles, just beyond Port Campbell, is London Bridge. We parked and wandered to the edge of the coastal cliff to view this dramatic limestone formation. It was a colourful spectacle, the turquoise sea making a striking contrast against the radiant orange cliffs. London Bridge was once a double-arched rock platform linked to the mainland, but in 1990 the span closest to the shore unexpectedly collapsed. It became the isolated arch that we see today. The collapse highlights the fragile nature of this windswept coast, serving as a dramatic reminder of nature’s power and the ever-changing landscape of the Great Ocean Road. It is anticipated that the top of the remaining arch will eventually collapse, and two large stacks will be left, much like the Twelve Apostles.
