Wandering in Hallstatt.

We arrived in Hallstatt, an Austrian village on the southwestern shore of Lake Hallstatt, in an area called Salzkammergut. To describe this village as picturesque does not do it justice. We visited on a very chilly winter’s day and Hallstatt was simply stunning, with the soaring snowy peaks of the Dachstein massif forming a magnificent backdrop. The winter sun glowed on the snow-dusted rooftops of the 16th century houses and the tall spire of the Evangelische Pfarrkirche, or the Evangelical Church, created a striking silhouette against the Alpine scenery. The wintry weather meant there were few other visitors, and we captured this image, our version of the iconic photograph that is taken by millions of summer visitors every year. Hallstatt was listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1997.
